Walking in Seasons of Favor & Fruitfulness
We often discuss how to endure trials and seasons of lack. However, what about the seasons of favor? These are the times when doors open, prayers are answered, opportunities abound, and your life feels aligned with divine acceleration.
For me, May is a month of celebration, primarily because my birthday is on the 16th. It’s also the month we honor the gift of motherhood, even amidst moments of sadness and remembrance of our mothers and grandmothers who have passed away.
May also brings signs of God’s faithfulness, favor, blessings, and fruitfulness as flowers begin to bloom after the rainy season in April. As I reflect on past seasons of favor and fruitfulness in my life, family, finances, business, career, and ministry, I am reminded that they always follow seasons of hardship, difficulty, dryness, and barrenness. These arid seasons serve a divine purpose that often produces growth, maturity, patience, endurance, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual grounding.
Seasons of favor and fruitfulness also serve a divine purpose. These are precious moments in our lives. However, if we are not careful, we can mishandle them or become so caught up in the blessings that we forget their source and purpose.
Here are some key principles to help us walk wisely and humbly in seasons of favor and fruitfulness:
1. Stay Grounded in Gratitude:
In times of overflow, gratitude serves as your anchor. It’s easy to think you’ve earned it, but the truth is, every good and perfect gift is from above(James 1:17). When we begin each day with a thankful heart, we keep God at the center of our success.
“But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth…” – Deuteronomy 8:18
Gratitude keeps pride at bay and invites continued favor because God knows you won’t forget Him in the harvest.
2. Steward the Blessing:
As we navigate these seasons of favor and fruitfulness, it’s crucial to steward the blessings that come our way. Remember, these blessings are not meant to be hoarded or taken for granted. Instead, let them be used to serve others and glorify God.
Favor isn’t just about comfort; it’s about calling. God blesses us not only for our own joy but also so that we can fulfill His purposes on earth. Whether it’s increased finances, influence, or impact, ask yourself, “How does God want me to manage this?”
“To whom much is given, much will be required.” – Luke 12:48
Don’t just consume the fruit, plant seeds for others.
3. Stay Humble and Teachable
One of the quiet dangers of fruitfulness is the illusion that we’ve figured it all out. However, humility keeps us in a position to receive fresh wisdom, correction, and clarity.
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6
Stay humble even when you’re being exalted. It’s the humble heart that draws continued grace.
4. Remain Rooted in God’s Word
Seasons of blessing can become seasons of distraction if we lose our connection to God. Stay disciplined in the Scriptures and prayer so that you remain spiritually anchored.
“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season…” – Psalm 1:2–3
Your fruitfulness must flow from your faithfulness to God’s voice.
5. Be a Blessing to Others
One of the most fulfilling ways to walk in favor is to become an agent of favor for others. Who can you uplift, mentor, coach, support, or bless in this season?
“I will bless you… and you will be a blessing.” – Genesis 12:2
You’re not just favored; you’re favored to favor.
6. Discern the Season
Not every area of your life will bear fruit at the same time. That’s okay. Favor in one area doesn’t mean neglect in another. Ask the Lord for clarity on what He’s blessing and why. This will help you invest your energy wisely.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1
Discernment helps you prioritize and remain in sync with God’s timing.
Finally, seasons of favor and fruitfulness are gifts—beautiful, powerful, and purposeful. Embrace them with open hands, a grateful heart, and a spirit attuned to God’s voice. Remember, your actions during your season of abundance shape your resilience in the seasons of scarcity.
As you reflect, consider these questions:
Are you currently experiencing a season of favor and fruitfulness?
How are you choosing to steward this gift?
