Celebrating Women Who Inspire

Gratitude for the women who have inspired us, challenged us, nurtured us, and paved the way before us is most befitting on Mother’s Day. Too often, their work goes unnoticed, their sacrifices taken for granted, and their brilliance is overshadowed by familiarity. Yet, if we are honest, many of us would not be where we are today without the faith, courage, and resilience of a woman who chose to invest her time, energy, and wisdom into us.

Many women inspire through faith and courage, such as Rosa Parks, who sat down on a Montgomery bus and refused to give up her seat. She was tired of injustice, and that one act of courage sparked a movement that changed the trajectory of this nation. Women such as Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker, who dared to speak truth to power when silence would have been an easier option.

Women who sacrificed by working day and night janitorial jobs so their children could attend and graduate college. Mothers who sacrificed their careers outside of the home to raise children who would one day have successful careers.

There is a saying: “When you drink from the well, don’t forget who dug it.” Many of us are drinking from wells we did not dig. We are drinking from wells of education, wells of opportunity, wells of success that were dug by the faith, prayers, labor, and love our mothers and grandmothers.

Inspiration is not just about what women did in the moment but about the legacy they leave behind. When we celebrate women who inspire us, we are also celebrating the seeds they planted that continue to bear fruit long after they are gone. Their names may never be in history books, but their influence remains in our lives.

Today, I encourage you to reflect on those women. The women who have inspired you. Perhaps it was a teacher who believed in you when nobody else did. A church mother who prayed for you. A friend who stood by you when life fell apart. A sister who encouraged you. A mother who never stopped loving you.

Don’t just celebrate them silently, honor them openly. Call them. Write them. Tell their story. Inspiration is contagious. Because when we celebrate women who inspired us, we pass inspiration forward to the next generation of women.

This Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate women who inspire.
